All she has to do is convince the villagers they want a library before her six-month trial period runs out.

Instead, Kasya finds herself running a one-room library out of a drafty post office with no funding, no staff, and a grumpy postman for a coworker. Amidst the dust bunnies and missing shelves, Kasya finds unexpected friendships—including with Rima, a capable handywoman hiding a secret past of her own.
Just as Bramblespell starts to feel like a place she could belong, dangerous magic begins creeping out of the surrounding forests and threatening the village. With time running out, Kasya must decide whether Bramblespell is just a stepping stone for her career… or a home worth fighting for.

This book was born from my twin passions of low-stakes fantasy and library history. I’ve also been yearning hard for a librarian in fiction to be more outgoing and community-forward than librarians are usually portrayed. Public service is no joke! It takes a thick skin and the ability to roll with the punches. I was also inspired by the real-life women who opened rural libraries throughout the entire state of California during the 1910s and 1920s. I’ll dive into that history in the future… stay tuned.
